THE PRACTICE

Thoughtful protection.
Purposeful direction.

Intellectual property decisions begin with understanding what you are building and where you want to take it. Explore three connected areas of focus.

01INVENTION

Patent Law

From an idea to an informed next step.

A new invention raises important questions. What is distinctive? What are the commercial priorities? What should be considered before sharing it with others?

Patent protection is one part of bringing an invention forward. Vince can also help you identify resources and next steps for developing and licensing your idea.

AREAS OF FOCUS

  • Invention assessment and protection options
  • Patent application planning
  • Portfolio priorities and ongoing decisions
Discuss patent matters
02IDENTITY

Trademark Law

Protect the identity you’re building.

A name, a logo, a recognizable identity. Whether you are developing a new brand or reviewing an existing one, thoughtful trademark planning starts with the right questions.

AREAS OF FOCUS

  • Brand selection and clearance considerations
  • Registration planning
  • Trademark use and portfolio management
Discuss trademark matters
03DIRECTION

IP Strategy
& Counseling

Connect IP decisions to business goals.

Individual IP decisions are part of a larger picture. Consider how your inventions, brand, and know-how fit together and which questions deserve attention as your business evolves.

AREAS OF FOCUS

  • IP priorities and portfolio review
  • Ownership and licensing considerations
  • Confidentiality and trade secret planning
Discuss your IP strategy

The scope of any legal services is determined after an initial discussion and confirmation of an engagement.

RESOURCES FOR INVENTORS

A useful place to begin.

Explore these official tools and guides from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Your own search is a starting point, not a complete trademark clearance or patentability assessment.

A PLACE TO START

A first conversation, at no cost.

Initial consultations are free for everyone. High school and college students are especially welcome to ask about an invention, creative work, or a brand idea. Each year, Vince mentors one or two students as they prepare and file their own trademark or provisional patent applications.

Please keep your first message brief and non-confidential. An initial conversation does not create an attorney-client relationship.

Growing up on a third-generation family farm, I saw inventors solve practical problems every day. That experience still shapes my practice. I enjoy working with people who are starting from scratch, whether they have a working invention or simply the first spark of an idea.
